We Help Boys with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
We can help your boy who is struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (or OCD), an anxiety disorder distinguished by continual unwanted thoughts, feelings and ideas.
His incessant cycle of undesired thoughts (obsessions) leads to his attempts at neutralizing them, by engaging in compulsive activities. Even though he knows that the thoughts or behaviors are extreme, he will get only brief relief by performing the compulsive behaviors.
This can be even more anxiety-producing, with worry of disease, dirt, mistakes, insistence for symmetry or exactness, unwelcome impulses to injure someone, objectionable sexual or religious thoughts.
His usual compulsions may be seen in excessively ceremonial behavior, like repeatedly saying specific words, or counting over and over again, repetition of everyday activities (hand washing, entering/leaving a room), hoarding (especially things with no discernable worth), consuming foods in a precise pattern, refusal to shake hands.
*Note: while sometimes used synonymously, OCD is not to be confused with OCPD, or Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder. An OCD sufferer has unwelcome thoughts and understands that they are ridiculous, while an OCPD sufferer believes his thinking to be appropriate and natural.
We’re Here to Help Your Son Who Has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
If left untreated your teen might suffer additional troubles (although not all directly brought on by OCD): depression, eating or anxiety disorders, substance abuse, a general, poor quality of life, suicidal thoughts (or behavior).
Cognitive behavior therapy is most successful, often in conjunction with medication, in helping confront OCD fears in healthy ways. Anti-depressants (principally ones that interact with the brain’s serotonin production) may also be useful in mitigating symptoms of OCD.
Prayer Mountain Boys Academy – Offering a Second Chance at a New Life
Our 15-month, bible-based, therapeutic curriculum is designed in such a way as to emphasize introspective thinking along with our Christian counseling. Tailored for the individual student, the work requires our students to scrutinize areas of their lives in need of change,
Boys come to us in various states of meaninglessness, having developed dysfunctional behaviors and attitudes to satisfy their need for security and significance. As loving parents, you have explored every option as you’ve tried to help your son who has been compromised as a result of his destructive choices. Once having looked to you for direction and approval, he is now following a negative peer group down the wrong path.
Guided by the pastoral counselors on our staff, Group Counseling (in addition to Individual Counseling) occurs on a regular basis at Prayer Mountain Boys Academy. This time is an opportunity to let students come to grips with commonly faced problems.
The Teen Challenge program provides a safe haven for adolescents who have filled the emptiness in their hearts with devastating consequences in its place; our residential school provides an opportunity for each student to refocus and evaluate his life decisions. We narrow distractions to provide an environment favorable to learning at Prayer Mountain Boys Academy. Students won’t have access to email or social networking sites, instead focusing on their secondary education within our rigorous, interactive, self-paced curriculum. Alpha Omega Academy is a fully accredited, high quality program, created exclusively for Christian schools.
Our Aftercare program will re-establish your son’s trust, along with conflict resolution, specific responsibilities and educational goals for his return to your home.
Our environment balances discipline with personal responsibility to create a positive peer element, nurturing students who’ll receive Prayer Mountain Academy’s crucial lessons of patience, diligence, teamwork, work ethics and motivation. Your son will be able to make healthy choices, transformed into the confident, unique young man he is, with a positive vision for his life ahead.
